Final Post

Throughout this blog, I wanted to give people an outlook on one of my favorite video games. This blog has been a wonderful tool for people to get on overview on some of things that are in the game. This last blog, I will a summary of my experience with content creation and using social media as a tool to promote myself.

So, throughout the semester, I had to promote myself in order to drive views to my page. I would do this by sharing each post after I finished to Twitter. One thing that I would have liked to improve was my themes and overall display of my page. I think I kept everything very basic but if I changed some things around, more people would definitely check my page out. I could have promoted my content better by using multiple social media apps. I only used Twitter when promoting my blogs, so if I used other apps, I know for a fact more people would have checked it out. If I wanted to just use Twitter, I should have just used my personal Twitter instead of using my school account because I have a lot more followers on my personal than my school account.

The best thing about this project was me having the ability to choose my own topic. Sometimes teachers assign project but they have the topic chosen already which takes away from the students creative ability. This experience could benefit me in the future because I’ll know how to properly promote. If I get a job where I’ll have to promote the company, I now know what not to do and what to do. For instance, when the military goes out to promote people to join and they can’t be their physically, they’ll use commercials that appeal towards a certain demographic.

My most populist week was the week of 4/20-4/26. For that week, I had seven views and three visitors. My most popular post was the 1V1/Quick Scoping post. That post had a total of six views. I think it was the most popular because it dealt with something that is controversial in the Call of Duty community. Anytime something is controversial, it’s almost always going to be viewed heavily. Something that surprised me was that it kept track of everything even from the first post which was like in February.

Top 10 Weapons in Modern Warfare

When playing a multiplayer shooter, you want to make sure that the guns that your using is fun to use but is also deadly. If a gun is just fun, you wouldn’t be able to reach your full capability versus if the gun is actually good. Today, I will take you through my opinion on the top 10 guns in this years Call of Duty title.

First up, we have the top three guns in the game: M4A1, MP5 and 725. Anyone using these three weapons would be called a sweaty gamer. These are guns where if a player is struggling in the game, he would change his loadout and use one of these three to improve. People hate these guns because they call them crutch guns. A crutch gun is when you have a majority of the multiplayer population using that gun; in Modern Warfare’s case, we have three of those.

The next three would be the: MP7,RAM-7 and AK47. These weapons will get the job done but they aren’t at the level of the crutch guns. You will see a decent number of users with them and you probably won’t get called a try hard. A try hard is someone who tries their hardest to do well in a game even if the enemy team is messing around. People also hate these kinds of people because they will take the fun out of it for other users.

Next, we have the: M13, Kilo 141 and P90. Using these guns would automatically give you respect within the player base because they aren’t exactly the best but they aren’t the worst. Bottom line, they are pretty much in the middle in terms of the best weapons in the game. For the final weapon choice, I decided to go with a sidearm. To me the best sidearm in the game would be the .50 GS because it packs a punch. But, if you want to use an akimbo sidearm, I suggest you use either the .357 or Renetti because it’s much better using those two than the .50 GS.

That is all for my Call of Duty blog, I thank you for continuing to view this blog.

Season Three

With each new update, there comes a new season within Modern Warfare. Each season contains new maps, operators, challenges and guns. Most of the time, these seasons last for about two months. They can also be a hefty download of about 15 gigabytes.

The three new maps that came upon the release of the new update included Talsik Backlot, Hovec Sawmill and Aniyah Incursion. Two of these maps aren’t necessarily new because Talsik Backlot was a map in COD 4 and Aniyah Incursion is just a smaller map of Aniyah Palace. Other new content within the season included three new operators; Alex, Ronin and Iskra, new customization options within the game and two new guns.

First let’s talk about the new customization options. Before this season, you could only customize your weapon loadout and character skin. With the introduction of Warzone, a couple of weeks back, Infinity Ward decided to allows its users of having the ability to customize their vehicles in Warzone. This is a good introduction into the game because it allows player to have a little freedom when playing Warzone.

Now, the two new weapons are a new pistol called the Renetti and a new marksman rifle called the SKS. They way you unlocked both items is progressing through the battle pass; the Renetti is a level 15 while the SKS is at level 31. I think overall the SKS is the better weapon of choice but once you unlock the akimbo version for the Renetti, it makes it better for close quarter combat. An akimbo version means having the same gun in both hands. The SKS is ideally used for long distance battles.

Only time will tell on what the next season would consists of. If its anything like this one, I’m sure it would be just a spectacular as this one. Now its just a waiting game.

Michaela Beckwith’s Blog

Every year, Activision releases a new Call of Duty title. With it being one of Activision’s biggest money makers, it’s nothing new, but in a recent investor call, Activision confirmed the release of more remastered games. Call of Duty is generally among the top selling video games of the year. These games can range from the Call of Duty series or the Crash Bandicoot series.

As usual, the game is slated to be released sometime in Autumn (October or November). Something new changed this year though. Activision would usually have three studios: Treyarch, Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward take turns making the new game each year. This upcoming year is supposed to be Sledgehammer’s but because of internal disagreements with Sledgehammer, Activision decided that Treyarch should make the new game. It’s an unprecedented move on Activision’s part of removing a studio whilst that studio is developing a new game.

With the speculations that Activision may remaster its old titles, it would give off some sort of freshness in the gaming world. Nowadays, game developers like to take content from other games and use them for their games. The gaming world doesn’t have that much unique titles like it once had. With the remastering of older titles, you would bring in some of that unique flavor that was lost. You would have games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Modern Warfare 2, both of which are fan favorites.

I think Michaela did a good job tying the title of blog with the actual story. A lot of times when you mention Call of Duty, it’s a lot of clickbait. The name Call of Duty holds so much weight in the gaming world, that people tend to use hashtags with the name, but it has absolutely nothing to do with it. It explains well for what the investor calls plan for next year was.

WARZONE

Call of Duty games usually comes with an assortment of game modes to play at launch. With the rise of Fortnite and its Battle Royale mode, Call of Duty introduced is version titled, Blackout. Fast forward one year, they are back with another version titled; Warzone. When making this type of game mode for Call of Duty, you must make sure to tune the weapons correctly. This can cause a Battle Royale game to make or break you as a game designer.

This difference in gun play between regular multiplayer and Battle Royale, is that multiplayer has a much more arcade feel towards it, while Battle Royale is almost like real life. In BR games, you must compensate for bullet drop. This means, if your using a sniper, you must aim above your target if their standing still and in front if they’re on a move. If you shoot like you would in regular multiplayer, then you bullet wouldn’t reach its target effectively. Weapon choices are very much different between the two modes as well.

With the mode having a total of 150 players, the map must be humongous. With such a huge map, you must know which guns to use at the correct distance. You don’t want to use a pistol from 50 meters because it’s just not going to get the job done. From short ranges, you would want to use submachine guns, shotguns and pistols. From longer distances, you would want to use snipers, light machine guns or marksman rifles. But the most widely used weapon choice would be the assault rifles.

The AR’s are versatile because you can use up close, medium range and pick players off from long distance. At any point in the game, you would see most players running around with this weapon choice. It really is the safest weapon category to use because you don’t want to get caught with a shotgun trying to out gun an AR and you don’t want to try to quick scope with a sniper up close to outgun any of the other weapon categories I mentioned.

The game mode can be difficult at first, especially if your used to playing regular multiplayer. With practice, knowing your weapons and map; you will begin to learn the ins and outs of the mode and will be racking up wins in no time.

1V1/Quick Scoping

In terms of Call of Duty, the term 1V1 means; if you have beef with a certain player, you would settle it. Typically you would choose the smallest map in the game and with a sniper you would quick scope. A quick scope is when you barely zoom into your sniper scope and shoot.

The first instance of the 1V1 was back in 2007 with the release of COD 4. Now the go to map for this game was called Shipment and the go to gun was the M40A3 sniper. This was a bolt action sniper that was lethal from all distances with good handling. Although this was the start for this era in COD, Modern Warfare 2 truly made it take off.

You may ask, “do the game developers like people who quick scope?” Actually, there’s been years where they try to tone down the aim down sight speed of a sniper but eventually, the players somehow find a way to make it work. The developers aren’t the only people who hates quick scoping, other players also hate them.

In MW2, the go to map was Rust and the go to guns were the Barrett 50 caliber and the Intervention. While the Intervention was a bolt action sniper, the Barrett was a semi-auto sniper. Most of the time, if you want to quick scope, you would use a bolt action. Quick Scoping was so popular, that it spawned the most popular clan; Faze.

When you quick scope and you actually earn the kill, you get a real sense of accomplishment after. You may start out being horrible at it, but once you get the hang of it, you can have so much fun on the game. The best part of all of this, is when someone is talking trash and you invite them to a 1V1 and just wipe them off the game.

God Tier

The term God tier means something that is other-worldly. In terms of this game, it would mean one gun that is undoubtedly the best weapon in the game. When first starting your multiplayer experience, you may wonder, “what’s the best gun to use?” In Modern Warfare, that gun is the M4A1. This gun can out-shoot a sub machine gun in close quarter combat and also out gun a light machine gun from distance with little to no recoil. Recoil is extremely important on an FPS game because the less your gun moves up and down or side to side, the better.

According to metabomb, the M4A1 “is massively accurate with a fast fire rate, giving you an enormously window of opportunity to kill the enemy.”

Another God tier weapon would be the BAL 27 from Advanced Warfare. This weapon is extremely easy to get because you unlock it at level one which is the starting level so you get the gun as soon as you begin. Most of the time, the good weapons are unlocked later on in the levels but for some reason, they decided that the best gun in the game should be unlocked at level one. The BAL is an assault rifle who like the M4A1 from Modern Warfare, can also out-shoot a sub machine gun in close quarters but also out gun a light machine gun from distance. This gun was so good that it became known throughout the game’s life as BAL of Duty.

Most of the time people hate playing against players that uses these two. People would call these players try hard’s; which means someone who tries to do their absolute best on every game using the most over powered guns. You would also want to use these guns when someone on the enemy team is talking smack. Whenever someone does that to me, I get really serious and just stick to the God gun until they feel my wrath.

This is a picture I took of the M4A1 in the game. I couldn’t get the Bal because the game is like five years old and I don’t have it anymore.

About Me

What’s going on everyone, my name is Trenton Sims. I am currently in my third year here at Texas State and hopefully I’ll graduate on time.

While being from New Orleans, I’ve experienced many traumas’ in my life whether that be from crime, poverty or natural disaster. As you all may know, in 2005 a horrible disaster struck my city in the form of Hurricane Katrina. While I wasn’t personally affected by it because my parents moved us to Houston, I remember we had 20 members of our family in a small three-bedroom home. With all of this happening in my young life, I noticed video games; particularly Call of Duty, helped me ease my mind with everything that was going on.

In short, I’ll be showing you guys which weapons you should use and which ones you shouldn’t. I think I have an expansive array of knowledge of this game because I’ve played every game since 2005 and currently, I have four days of in game playtime on the latest installment; Modern Warfare.

I chose this topic because if it can help me get through bad times, maybe it can help other people do the same. In my honest opinion, while the game can make you very frustrated to the point where you can break a controller or two; it can also be worthwhile when you finally are able to attain that illustrious tactical nuke. I hope I can make anyone that wants to get better at the game; get better.

My audience is other people who either play or enjoy watching Call of Duty. It can also be for anyone who just wants to stop by and see what I am blogging about.

If you guys want to hop and play a few matches, you can add me on the PlayStation4 at xxfamous1k or you can add me from my Activision account; Trent.
